Shout out to Laurent!

Last Saturday I had the good fortune of touring Rome’s Porta Pia neighbourhood food market with Fridge Whisperer foodie (and an incredible historian!) Laurent, and my sister-in-law, Kate.
What an amazing time!
I’m happy to report, dear FW warriors, that the Slow Food Movement is alive and doing very, very well in Rome and, it appears, in the entire country as well.
On the bus from Amalfi to Florence today, we sliced field fresh tomatoes, broke still warm bread, and ate cast away olives and salami I purchased while in Laruent’s knowledgable company. Man oh man. Those tomatoes had the tast memory of kinder, simplier times.
I’ll try to post again before heading to Venice. But, in the meantime, here’s a few pics from Porta Pia’s market to tide you over.
Miss you!
Deb.

Hi Deb
Glad you enjoyed Saturday morning with Laurent, I know he had a great time showing you around.
Those zucchini flowers would make great fiori di zucca!
Hope you enjoy the rest of the time.
Hi Willym,
About those zucchini flowers; I was thinking the same thing! It’s next to impossible to find zucchini flowers in Toronto markets. Luckily I’m part of the Community Assisted Agriculture program in my hometown of Durham Region and will be getting some flowers for fiori di zucca in one of my bi-weekly baskets shortly. I’ll be sure to post my recipe and a photo of the finished dish.
In the meantime, today at Deb’s Daily Dish I’m posting my book signing with Laurent. More photos and stories to follow as time allows.
Thanks for your post!
Ciao,
Deb.
